Office History
Stockton Hall, completed in 1924, is one of the oldest buildings on the Foggy Bottom campus.
GW has had an Office of Academic Affairs for many years, charged with oversight of GW’s colleges and schools as well as with enhancing academic excellence in all arenas. Immediately prior to Dr. Lerman becoming provost, Donald R. Lehman was the university’s chief academic officer, serving as executive vice president for academic affairs. On July 1, 2010, President Knapp implemented the decision to expand the scope of the Office of Academic Affairs to include oversight of the university’s Medical Center and of the Department of Student and Academic Support Services. At the same time, the title of the university’s chief academic officer became Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.
