Financial Aid Student Advisory Council

Background

As we continue to explore ways to enhance the student experience, Enrollment and Student Success and the Office for Student Financial Assistance (OSFA), in partnership with the Student Assocation, are pleased to announce the formation of the Financial Aid Student Advisory Council. Student feedback is essential to GW’s continued improvement, and continual improvement has helped financial aid make technology and systems improvements. The Financial Aid Student Advisory Council will aid the Financial Aid office in determining new ways in which it can support students and their GW experience.

The council will consist of 10 to 20 undergraduate and graduate students representing all residential and non-residential schools, not including GW Law or SMHS. Students on the council will review and provide recommendations on financial aid policies and processes, and will identify tools and best practices to assist students in navigating the complexity of the financial aid process. The council will also assist OSFA in communicating financial aid policies and services to the university community.

The Financial Aid Student Advisory Council will meet three times each fall and spring semester, with ad hoc meetings called when necessary. Council meetings will start in the Fall of 2021. Discussion topics will include reviewing financial aid promotion and FAFSA completion campaigns, financial aid trends, and financial aid packaging.
