Steering Committee & Working Groups
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee charged with the decennial Self-Study is currently composed of 22 individuals. These individuals were carefully chosen to broadly represent the GW community. The Steering Committee was constituted with an eye toward both diversity (including gender and race) and broad representation from the ten schools that make up the university.

Working Groups
Eight Working Groups are responsible for the majority of the self-study analysis. One Working Group has been assigned to each of the seven standards of accreditation; an additional Working Group has been created to address the requirements of affiliation and verification of compliance with accreditation-relevant federal regulations. Two co-chairs, each of whom is a member of the Steering Committee, lead each Working Group. At least one of the co-chairs of each Working Group is a faculty member with significant administrative experience. The co-chairs formed their Working Groups with input from the Steering Committee co-chairs and the Office of the Provost. As was the case with the co-chairs, the members of each of the Working Groups were chosen to ensure both diversity and broad representation from across the university.
Charges to the Working Groups
At the Kick-Off meeting of the Steering Committee (March 29, 2016), the co-chairs were given general instructions as follows:
- Each Working Group report should be limited to 10 pages;
- Both the strengths and weaknesses of the university concerning the standards should be evaluated but the tone of the report should be factual and, as far as possible, constructive. This will greatly aid the Steering Committee co-chairs when they put together a draft of the entire Self-Study;
- In the evaluation of each standard (and the Requirements of Affiliation), linkages should be made to both the university’s Mission Statement and the Strategic Plan.
In addition, a common charge was given to eight Working Groups. Specifically, each group was charged to:
- Examine relevant documentation, processes, and procedures as they relate to the standard under review;
- Describe the extent to which GW meets the criteria established by the standards;
- Provide an analysis of the university’s strengths and challenges with regard to the standard;
- Make recommendations for improvement; and
- Revise and update the Document Roadmap in terms of its relevance to the standard.
