Announcing Planning Grants for Interdisciplinary Initiatives

September 4, 2026

Dear Colleagues,

In line with the Strategic Framework’s goal of advancing interdisciplinary endeavors with impact, we are announcing a new internal funding opportunity: Planning Grants for Interdisciplinary Initiatives. The grants will provide up to $5,000 to support planning around potential interdisciplinary research avenues, educational innovation, or both, with encouragement to collaborate with external partners—such as faculty from other universities, NGOs, and/or community organizations.

Through this initiative, we look to promote new inquiry and interdisciplinary community-building. Proposals must include at least three active-status, full-time GW faculty members from at least two different disciplines.

Three tracks are available — an open track, Discovery, a Sustainability track, and a Global Food track. The Provost’s Office will base funding decisions on the merits and design of the proposed planning activities, and the clarity of the written proposal, and give preference to proposals that align with goals of the Strategic Framework.

Proposals are due Monday, September 28 by 1:00 p.m. ET via the OVPR InfoReady Portal. More information about the initiative, tracks, and application process is available on the Provost site via the link below.
