E.O. 13693

President Obama issued Executive Order (EO) 13693, Planning for Federal Sustainability in the Next Decade, on March 19, 2015. Under the overarching directive to reduce Federal GHG emissions by 40%, Federal agencies are required to meet statutory mandates established by the 2002 and 2014 Farm bills that require purchase preference for BioPreferred and biobased products designated by U.S. Department of Agriculture. The EO further encourages procurement of biobased products by requiring agencies to establish annual targets for the number of contracts to be awarded with BioPreferred and biobased criteria.
