Capital Cities Scholars
Capital Cities Scholars is an exciting educational opportunity for undergraduate students to delve further into international education, building on the skills you have acquired and honing them with further opportunities in global education. Through this educational pathway, you will have the opportunity to think about the interconnected nature of our global society, experience different perspectives on pressing global issues, and embrace the cultural sophistication that comes with encountering diverse cultures.
The program provides an opportunity to become citizens of the world for students who have completed their first year or semester abroad (depending on your program) at one of our three partner institutions: The American University of Paris, Saint Louis University-Madrid, or Harlaxton College.
You will receive a university cord indicating your completion of the Capital Cities Scholars program.
Program Requirements
Please note: Students admitted to the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) are not eligible for the Capital City Scholars Program.
- Must be an undergraduate student at GW
- A completed year or semester abroad (depending on your program) at The American University of Paris, Saint Louis University-Madrid, or Harlaxton College.
- Registration in a one-credit course, Univ 2600 - Global Citizenship, in which you will reflect on what you have learned from your international experiences and begin to plan one future investigation. Here, you will develop the tools to think about the meaning of your experiences abroad and how those experiences fit into your overall college education. This course will also provide a "home" for you to ask questions about your GW education and how your studies can unfold here.
- An additional semester (AUP students) or year of study (SLU and Harlaxton students) at any of our GW study abroad locations worldwide, in a capital city or elsewhere. You will be able to investigate the questions you have posed about the culture you will visit and experience more fully what your foreign destination has to offer.
- Enrollment in a capstone course your senior year in which you will integrate what you have learned into a paper or presentation to share with our community. This capstone might be in your major, or you can enroll in our one-credit capstone course.
