Provost Welcome for the New Academic Year: for Faculty and Staff

August 24, 2022

Dear Colleagues:

Whether you are a new member of the George Washington University community or returning after the summer, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the new year.

As we begin the year, academic excellence — among our students, our faculty, and in our instructional environment — remains our touchstone, and we are gaining incredible momentum in support of this objective. Our student body is outstanding and diverse, with our incoming first-year class having the largest number of first-generation students in GW’s history; we continue to attract and build a world-class faculty who are impactful researchers and highly effective instructors; and we are thinking intentionally about our academic programming and working to ensure that our courses provide the knowledge and skills employers demand in the present-day workforce.

In addition, over the summer, we announced a number of critical leadership appointments in the Office of the Provost that will further enhance the student, faculty and academic staff experience and help shape our future as a comprehensive, global research institution, and we took the next steps in the search for the 19th president of the George Washington University.

In short, we are entering the 2022-23 academic year in a position of great strength. As we settle into the new year, I hope all of us will remember to be kind to each other and to ourselves. If needed, please make use of the resources available on the Faculty Affairs and Human Resources websites to help make your transition as smooth as possible.

The untiring hard work and vital contributions of our faculty and staff will continue to propel us forward in our third century as an institution with an outstanding academic reputation. I look forward to working alongside you as we continue to build momentum and fulfill our academic mission in order to make a positive impact on the world.

Sincerely,

Christopher Alan Bracey
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
