Thank You for a Year of Academic Excellence [Faculty Message]

May 8, 2026

Dear Faculty,

As GW finishes finals for the year and the university looks ahead to an exciting Commencement Week, we want to thank you for your continued commitment to our academic enterprise. In our classrooms, labs, studios, and more, you educate our future leaders, conduct transformative research, build community, and serve the university’s mission and impact our world in many ways. Our forward momentum — whether it is the rise in our graduate program rankings, making progress in our Trustworthy AI Initiative, or having an impressive showing at the second annual InnovationFest to celebrate research and creativity — is because of your ongoing efforts to foster a culture of academic excellence.

A few final reminders for the end of the semester:

Final Grades

Faculty are required to submit final grades within five business days after the final exam, after the submission of a final project, or after the final class meeting if no exam or project is given. It is critical that you submit grades in a timely manner to avoid potentially impacting student financial aid in future semesters.

Clarifying Grade Designations for Undergraduate and Graduate Courses

Faculty received a message in the fall semester clarifying grade designations for undergraduate and graduate courses and impacting how faculty for these courses award grades. Please continue to familiarize yourself with this information. FAQs are posted on the Office of the Registrar site to address any questions that may arise.

Well-being Resources

Of course, you must not forget to look after yourselves during this busy time. The Human Resource Management & Development website and Faculty Affairs website have well-being resources to help support you.

Thank you for all you do to make GW such an incredible place to teach, research, work, and serve our community. Best of luck finishing out the semester, have a healthy and restful summer, and we hope to see you all at Commencement on the National Mall on May 17th!

Raise High!
